What's inside Lighty: the details you don't see
Many lighting controllers switch and dim. The difference lies in the details you do not see in everyday use, but notice. Here is what is inside Lighty.
Light that feels high-end
- Gentle fade in and out: when you switch on, the light fades up in about one second, and when you switch off, it fades out in just under one and a half seconds. Just like high-end home lighting, with no harsh jump.
- Brightness the way your eyes see it: Lighty converts every setting to the way the eye perceives light. 50% on the slider really feels like half the brightness, and at the bottom there is plenty of room for a calm night light.
- The colour stays the same when dimming: when you dim a coloured light, only the brightness changes. A warm orange stays orange, even right at the bottom.
- Remembers the last mood: when you switch a light on, it comes back with the colour and brightness you last chose, even with pure colours such as red. After a power cut, the brightness last stored via the SmartKnob applies.
Quiet for people, electrics and radio
- No whining, no flicker: a switching frequency of 19.5kHz, above what humans can hear, and flicker-free in photos and videos.
- Time-offset channels: the five channels do not all switch at the same moment. That puts a more even load on your electrical system.
- Less radio interference: Lighty spreads its switching frequency slightly over a narrow range. This reduces electromagnetic interference in the vehicle, for example in radio reception.
- Off really means off: when all lights are off, Lighty switches the light outputs off completely.
Adapts to your installation
- Ready to go without setup: a Lighty fresh from the factory responds to its push buttons straight away. With Lighty Extension, each push button switches and dims its own channel, which is handy for the first test during installation.
- Free channel layout: RGBWW, RGBW plus one single light, RGB plus two, tunable white on any two channels or five single lights. You set this in the dashboard, not with the cables.
- Push button or switch: Lighty works with push buttons for dimming or, on its own input, with classic switches for on and off.
- Assign push buttons freely: you decide in the dashboard which push button switches which light. You do not have to rewire anything for this.
- Robust push button inputs: even long push button cables running next to LED cables do not cause false switching. Lighty checks every signal several times before it switches.
Safe out of the box
- Electronic fuse per light: adjustable from 0.5 to 20A, fast, normal or slow. On top of that there is a second, fast cut-off in the hardware.
- Battery protection: undervoltage and overvoltage protection, which you switch on in the dashboard.
- Stays off until you release it: after a trip, the lights do not keep switching on and off, they stay off until you reset the trip in the dashboard.
- Overheating protection: if it gets too warm inside the device, Lighty switches off.
- Safe off state: if there is a fault, the light goes off, never permanently on.
Updates without risk
- Original firmware only: updates are signed and encrypted. Lighty only installs firmware that comes from us and is meant for Lighty.
- Automatic way back: if a new update does not run stably, Lighty goes back to the previous version by itself. If an update is interrupted, Lighty starts with the old firmware.
- Remote diagnosis: Lighty keeps a logbook of anything unusual. If something goes wrong, our support sees the cause without you having to reproduce the fault.
For van converters
What this means for you: fewer cables, no fuse per lighting circuit, no two-way switching, push button assignment in software instead of rewiring, and a diagnosis that saves trips when service is needed.
