More push buttons with Lighty Extension

Updated 15 October 2026Lighty

Lighty has one input for a push button. With Lighty Extension you can connect up to five push buttons, one for each light.

You then switch your lights at the wall push button as usual, and also on the SmartKnob and in the dashboard.

How to connect Lighty Extension

Wiring diagram Lighty with Lighty Extension: battery, LED strip, IN to IN, GND to GND, push buttons on 1 to 5 and ground

  1. Connect Lighty to Lighty Extension: both are marked IN and GND. Connect IN to IN and GND to GND. That is two cables.
  2. Connect the push buttons: each push button has two connections. Connect one to an input on the Extension, that is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Connect the other to ground, in other words negative (GND).

For ground you can use the GND terminal on the Extension. But you do not have to: any ground near the push button works just as well. Then a single cable from the Extension to the push button is enough. In the picture, that is the dashed line.

Which cable: 0.25 to 0.5mm², solid or flexible (for example FLRY-B), stripped 6mm, bare wire without ferrules. Push solid cable straight in. For flexible cable, press the small release button with a narrow screwdriver while you push it in. All details are in "Connecting Lighty".

Without a SmartKnob

Push button 1 switches channel 1, push button 2 channel 2 and so on. A short press switches, press and hold dims. There is nothing to set up. More on this in "Lighty without a SmartKnob".

With the SmartKnob

Each input belongs to one channel: input 1 is R, 2 is G, 3 is B, 4 is WW and 5 is CW. In the dashboard you decide which channels make up a light. Its push button goes on the input with the number of one of these channels. Example: a warm and cold white strip on G and B gets its push button on input 2 or 3.

You can also use several push buttons for one light, for example at the entrance and at the bed. Connect them in parallel to the same input. Then you do not need two-way switching. More on this in "Switching one light in the camper from two places".

After pairing, a push button only switches once you have switched it on in the light widget under Push button.

Important: push buttons only. Switches do not belong on Lighty Extension. A switch stays closed after you flip it. If two switches are closed at the same time, Lighty cannot tell them apart. Connect a normal switch directly to Lighty, without the Extension.
