Switching loads with Switchy
With Switchy you switch up to 8 devices: 4 on the battery at 12V or 24V and 4 at 230V. On top of that there are 2 inputs for limit switches. You operate everything as widgets in the dashboard and on the SmartKnob.
Once Switchy is connected to the SmartKnob, you create a widget for each channel. Then you can switch it on and off, control it on a schedule or include it in scenes.
Channels for 12V and 24V
- 4 channels, each up to a maximum of 30A.
- For devices connected to the leisure battery.
- Each channel needs its own fuse in the positive cable, no more than 30cm from the positive terminal of the battery.
Channels for 230V
- 4 channels, each up to a maximum of 10A.
- Typical uses are sockets for shore power, the boiler or other 230V devices that do not draw more than 10A continuously.
- Two protective devices must be installed before Switchy: an RCD with 30mA (residual current device, protects against electric shock) and a B10 circuit breaker (MCB rated 10A with trip characteristic B, protects the cable). Why exactly this one is explained in Why a B10 circuit breaker is needed at 230V.
Important: the 230V installation may only be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Devices with a much higher current draw, for example air conditioning, a tumble dryer or an induction hob, do not belong behind Switchy. They get their own circuit breaker directly in the 230V distribution of your camper.
Inputs for limit switches
2 inputs for simple contacts, for example magnetic switches (reed contacts) on a lift bed, pop-top roof or slide-out. When the mechanism reaches its end position, Switchy automatically switches off the associated 12V or 24V channel. How this works is explained in Connecting limit switches.
