Statutory warranty and manufacturer's guarantee: the difference

Updated 9 October 2026

When you buy a Camper Jarvis product, you have two rights that are independent of each other: the statutory warranty from your seller and the voluntary manufacturer's guarantee from Jarvis Labs GmbH. Both exist side by side, and the guarantee does not replace or limit your statutory rights.

Statutory warranty

As a consumer, you are entitled to the statutory rights for defects against the seller you bought the product from, that is the dealer, van converter or online shop. In Germany, under §§434 ff. BGB:

  • at least 2 years from delivery
  • in the first 12 months it is presumed that a defect already existed at delivery (reversal of the burden of proof under §477 BGB)
  • claims are supplementary performance (repair or replacement), and if this fails, price reduction or withdrawal from the contract and, where applicable, damages

You assert these rights against your seller, not against Jarvis Labs GmbH.

Voluntary manufacturer's guarantee

In addition, Jarvis Labs GmbH grants a 2-year guarantee from the date of purchase shown on the proof of purchase, valid in the EU, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway. It covers defects in materials and workmanship with intended use and proper installation. At Jarvis Labs' choice, the remedy is free repair or replacement of the affected module, and Jarvis Labs covers the return shipping.

What the guarantee does not cover

Not covered by the guarantee are, among other things:

  • use other than as intended, such as connection to the vehicle's OEM electrical system or the starter battery
  • faulty installation (wrong wiring, reversed polarity, missing fuse, AC without a 30mA RCD or without a qualified electrician)
  • environmental influences and force majeure (water, frost, lightning)
  • tampering with hardware and software, such as opened housings
  • wear and cosmetic defects
  • consequential damage and data loss

Mandatory statutory liability rules, in particular under the German Product Liability Act, remain unaffected.

Which way is the right one?

If there is a defect, you are free to contact your seller, Jarvis Labs GmbH or both. Coming directly to us is often the quicker way, because we know the product best and have all the diagnostic data. For complete builds, your van converter may be the more practical contact. If it remains unclear whether a guarantee case exists, Jarvis Labs GmbH decides in favour of the customer when in doubt.
