Operating the SmartKnob: the four gestures

Updated 9 October 2026SmartKnob

You operate the SmartKnob entirely with the dial, using four gestures: turn to select. Press to confirm. Double click to go back. Long press for special functions.

The SmartKnob has no touchscreen and no buttons, the dial is the only control surface. The haptic feedback engine gives every step its own tangible signature, so you know where you are before you read the display.

The four gestures

  1. Turn: navigate and adjust. Move through menu items and lists. On a value control you dim lights, change a setpoint or scroll through options. Every detent is a click you can feel.
  2. Press once: confirm and open. Open the highlighted menu, confirm a selection or switch a widget on and off. The single click is your yes.
  3. Double click: one step back. A double click goes back one menu level, without any back button on the display.
  4. Long press: scene shortcut. A long press on the home screen opens a quick menu for your scenes.

With these four gestures you reach every screen in the system.
