Politique de confidentialité
Last updated: 10 October 2026
This privacy notice informs you about which personal data we process when you use our website and our online shop (Part A) and when you use our Camper Jarvis devices (Part B). Part C contains the information that applies to both areas, in particular your rights.
The key point first: Camper Jarvis is deliberately designed so that your data does not leave your vehicle wherever possible. Only the central control unit (“SmartKnob”) connects to the internet at all, via your own Wi-Fi network. All wireless modules communicate exclusively locally with the SmartKnob via radio. The system contains no GPS and collects no location data.
1. Controller
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Jarvis Labs GmbH
Bücklestraße 3
78467 Konstanz, Germany
Email: info@camper-jarvis.de
Phone: +49 7531 9114823
Represented by the managing director: Enrico Tank
Part A: Website and online shop
2. Hosting and provision by Shopify
Our website and our shop are operated on the Shopify platform. Our contractual partner is Shopify International Limited, 2nd Floor, 1-2 Victoria Buildings, Haddington Road, Dublin 4, D04 XN32, Ireland, which acts as our processor (Art. 28 GDPR).
When you visit the website, the following data is processed for technical reasons: IP address, date and time of access, pages visited, browser type and version, operating system and referrer URL (server log data). This processing is necessary for the provision, stability and security of the website.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure and functional provision of the website).
Shopify also processes certain data (e.g. for fraud prevention and platform security) as an independent controller. Information on this and on your rights vis-à-vis Shopify can be found in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and in the Shopify Privacy Portal.
In this context, data may also be processed outside the EEA, in particular by Shopify Inc. in Canada and affiliated companies in the USA. An adequacy decision of the EU Commission exists for Canada; transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).
3. Customer account
If you create a customer account, we process your email address, your name, your login data and the addresses and orders stored in your account in order to provide the account to you.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract). You may have your account deleted at any time; statutory retention obligations remain unaffected.
4. Orders and payment processing
When you place an order, we process your order and contract data: name, billing and delivery address, email address, telephone number where applicable, items ordered, payment method and payment status.
Purpose and legal basis: Processing of your purchase contract, including payment, shipping and any reversal (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), and compliance with statutory retention obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR in conjunction with Section 257 German Commercial Code (HGB), Section 147 German Fiscal Code (AO)).
For payment processing, we pass on the data required for this purpose to the payment service provider. We offer payment via PayPal (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg; PayPal Privacy Statement). PayPal processes your complete payment data directly; we only receive a confirmation of the payment status.
5. Shipping
To deliver your order, we pass on your name, your delivery address and, where necessary for delivery, your email address or telephone number to the logistics company commissioned with the shipment (recipient category: shipping and parcel service providers).
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).
6. Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we process your email address in order to send you information about our products and news. Registration takes place using the double opt-in procedure: after registering, you receive an email with a confirmation link; the newsletter is only sent once you have confirmed. We log the registration (time of registration and confirmation, IP address) in order to be able to prove your consent.
Legal basis: Your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the unsubscribe link at the end of each email or by sending us a message; the withdrawal takes effect for the future. The newsletter is sent via the Shopify platform (Section 2). No further advertising or marketing measures take place, in particular no personalised advertising based on your browsing or purchasing behaviour and no disclosure of your data to advertising partners.
7. Contacting us
If you contact us (e.g. by email, telephone or via the contact form), we process the information you provide (name, contact details, content of the enquiry) in order to handle your request.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, insofar as your enquiry relates to a contract; otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to enquiries). We delete enquiries as soon as they have been fully processed and no statutory retention obligations apply.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses cookies that are technically necessary for the operation of the shop, for example for the shopping cart, the login to your customer account, your language and country selection and the security of the checkout process. No consent is required for these technically necessary cookies (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act); Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). An overview of the cookies set by Shopify can be found in the Shopify Cookie Policy.
We do not use cookies for analytics, statistical or marketing purposes.
To display our FAQ section, we use the Shopify app “Trusted Help Center & FAQ” (provider: Trusted Apps). When the FAQ page is accessed, the technical access data mentioned in Section 2 is processed in order to deliver the content; the app does not set any cookies for analytics or marketing purposes. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in providing a help section).
8a. Website assistant “Jarvis”
On our website, you can ask questions to our AI-powered assistant “Jarvis”. As long as you do not submit a question, no data is transmitted to the assistant.
Data processed: the text of your messages in the current chat, the path of the page you are currently on, and the selected language. Please do not enter any personal data such as your name, address or telephone number in the chat. For personal enquiries, please use our contact form (Section 7).
Recipients: Your message is forwarded to the AI provider via Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, as a technical service provider. In this process, your IP address is processed briefly in order to limit misuse; we do not store it. The response is generated by Anthropic, PBC, 548 Market St, PMB 90375, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA, using the Claude language model. Anthropic processes the content on our behalf and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering questions about our products quickly); where your question concerns a specific offer, additionally Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Storage period: The chat history is stored only in your browser and is deleted when you close the tab. In order to improve the assistant, we store your questions and the assistant's answers without IP address or any other identifier for 90 days; they are then deleted automatically.
Note: Jarvis is an AI and can make mistakes. Only our offers and the information provided by our team are binding.
9. External links
Our website contains links to external websites (e.g. to our Instagram profile and to partner companies). When you click on them, you leave our website; the privacy policy of the respective provider then applies. Merely including the links does not transmit any data to these providers.
Part B: Camper Jarvis devices
10. Basic principle: your data stays in the vehicle
The Camper Jarvis system consists of the central control unit “SmartKnob” and wireless modules (e.g. for heating, battery, water tank, lighting, relays, current measurement). Only the SmartKnob connects to the internet, via your own Wi-Fi network. The wireless modules communicate exclusively locally with the SmartKnob via radio (ESP-NOW) and have no internet connection whatsoever. The system contains no GPS and collects no location data.
The dashboard used for operation and configuration is a web dashboard that the SmartKnob itself provides in your local network. It does not run in a cloud, and no online account is required.
- Stays in the vehicle: all measurement, operating and diagnostic data of the devices (Section 11).
- Technically necessary: update requests from the SmartKnob to our server (Section 12).
- Only with your consent: pseudonymised telemetry for product improvement (Section 13).
11. Local diagnostic data on the device (“black box”)
The SmartKnob and the wireless modules store technical diagnostic data in their internal memory, which remains exclusively on the respective device: restart causes, operating hours, memory usage, radio signal strengths, usage statistics (e.g. number of clicks and rotations), environmental extreme values (temperature, air pressure, humidity), configuration data (e.g. tank volume, battery type) and, on the SmartKnob, the name of the connected Wi-Fi network (SSID).
This data does not leave the device automatically. It is only transmitted to us if you consent to telemetry (Section 13) or send the device to us for repair (Section 15).
Purpose: device functionality, fault diagnosis and handling of warranty and repair cases. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (provision of the device functionality); storage in the terminal equipment is strictly necessary for the service you have requested (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG).
Deletion: at any time by you via a factory reset of the device (see operating instructions). We recommend performing a factory reset before reselling a device.
12. Automatic update checks
Approximately every six hours, the SmartKnob queries our update server (ota.camper-jarvis.de) via an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to check whether new firmware is available. The device type and the installed firmware version are transmitted; for technical reasons, the server also sees the IP address of your internet connection. The wireless modules do not contact the server themselves; their updates are distributed via the SmartKnob.
Purpose: provision of functional updates and, in particular, security updates. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure, up-to-date functioning of the devices); access in the course of the update check is strictly necessary within the meaning of Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG.
Storage period: We store server logs containing the IP address for 30 days in order to detect and defend against attacks and misuse, and then delete them automatically. Statistical evaluations (e.g. distribution of firmware versions) are carried out exclusively in aggregated form without IP addresses.
Hosting: The update server is operated by IONOS SE (Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany) in data centres in Germany; a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with IONOS.
13. Optional telemetry: only with your consent (opt-in)
Only if you expressly agree in the dashboard does the SmartKnob transmit pseudonymised usage and diagnostic data to our server: the technical data and usage statistics described in Section 11, linked to a randomly generated device ID. Without your consent, no transmission takes place; the function is deactivated by default.
Expressly not transmitted: names, addresses, location data (none are collected in any case), the name of your Wi-Fi network (SSID), Wi-Fi passwords and MAC addresses.
Purposes: product improvement and fault analysis as well as the creation of aggregated, anonymous statistics. We may also use such anonymous evaluations for market research purposes or pass them on as anonymous industry analyses, but never raw data from individual devices.
Legal basis: Your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR in conjunction with Section 25(1) TDDDG. Withdrawal: at any time in the dashboard settings, with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR). Upon withdrawal, the transmission ends; in addition, we delete the raw data stored on our server for your device ID. Aggregated, anonymous statistics that have already been created remain unaffected, as they no longer contain any reference to your device.
Storage period: Pseudonymous raw data is stored for a maximum of 24 months and then aggregated or deleted.
14. Licence activation for additional functions
Certain additional functions can be purchased as a licence in our shop (Part A applies to the purchase). Upon activation, the licence key is assigned to the device ID of your SmartKnob and this assignment is stored on our server.
Purpose: licence management (e.g. reactivation after a factory reset or device replacement) and prevention of licence misuse. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Storage period: for the duration of the licence relationship, and beyond that only within the scope of statutory retention obligations.
15. Warranty and repair cases (RMA)
If you send us a device for inspection, warranty processing or repair, we process your contact and case data (name, address, email address, proof of purchase, fault description) and, for fault analysis, read out the diagnostic data stored locally on the device (Section 11).
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract; statutory warranty). Storage period: for the duration of processing, thereafter within the statutory limitation and retention periods (Section 257 German Commercial Code (HGB), Section 147 German Fiscal Code (AO)). We delete diagnostic data read out in a service case after the case has been closed, unless it remains necessary to document the specific case.
Part C: For all areas
16. Transfers to third countries
The device data described in Part B (update server, telemetry, licence management) is processed exclusively on servers within the European Union; no transfer to third countries takes place in that context.
In the context of Part A (website and shop), data may also be processed outside the EEA by Shopify and PayPal, on the basis of adequacy decisions (Canada, EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 44 et seq. GDPR); see Sections 2 and 4.
For the website assistant “Jarvis” (Section 8a), data is processed by Cloudflare and Anthropic in the USA. This is based on EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) and, where the respective provider is certified, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
17. Your rights
As a data subject, you have the following rights:
- Access to the data processed about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
- Rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR),
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
- Withdrawal of consent given at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR), e.g. the telemetry consent directly in the dashboard settings, the newsletter via the unsubscribe link.
To exercise your rights, an informal message to info@camper-jarvis.de is sufficient. For pseudonymous telemetry data, providing your device ID (shown in the dashboard under Settings → Licensing) helps us to identify your data. You will not suffer any disadvantage from exercising your rights.
18. Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
You have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning you which is carried out on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests); this applies in particular to the server log data (Section 2) and the logging of update checks (Section 12). If you object, we will no longer process the data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
No processing for direct marketing purposes takes place beyond the newsletter you may have subscribed to; you can end the newsletter at any time via the unsubscribe link.
19. Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
Without prejudice to any other remedy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, your place of work or the place of the alleged infringement. The supervisory authority responsible for us is the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg (State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Baden-Württemberg), Heilbronner Straße 35, 70191 Stuttgart, www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de.
20. No automated decision-making
We do not carry out automated individual decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
21. Obligation to provide data
You are under no statutory or contractual obligation to provide us with personal data. However, without the necessary order data we cannot process a purchase contract; without the update connection (Section 12) the SmartKnob cannot receive (security) updates; without contact details we cannot handle warranty and repair cases. Telemetry (Section 13) is entirely voluntary and has no effect on the functionality of your device.
22. Children's data
Our services are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 16. If you, as a parent or guardian, believe that a child has provided us with data, please contact us; we will delete this data.
23. Changes to this privacy notice
We will amend this privacy notice if the data processing (e.g. due to new functions) or the legal situation changes. The version published here at any given time applies. In the event of material changes affecting existing consents, we will inform you (for device telemetry via the dashboard) and obtain new consent where necessary.
24. Contact
If you have any questions about data protection or about exercising your rights, you can contact us at info@camper-jarvis.de, by telephone at +49 7531 9114823 or by post at the address given in Section 1.
This is a translation for your convenience. In case of discrepancies, the German version prevails.
